Parents/guardians and other guests of the district are welcome and encouraged to visit TUSD schools. Visitors must respect the learning environment however and maintain proper behavior and decorum. (EC 51512)
Disruption of the orderly process of the school is prohibited. In accordance with Penal Code 626.7, the principal or his/her designee is authorized to deny access, ban or bar future access, and remove or request the removal of any visitor whose behavior is disruptive to the educational/ working environment of the school.
Visitors to any of our campuses who have been denied access or who have been asked to leave may schedule an appointment to appeal to the Director of Student Services at (209) 667-0887 daily between the hours of 8 am and 4:30 pm.

The mission of Walter Brown Elementary School, an innovative learning environment, is to ensure all students achieve a solid academic foundation and become self-motivated learners with good moral character by providing exceptional instruction, engaging activities, and meaningful opportunities within a safe, inclusive environment in partnership with our families and community.
Section 5 of Article IX of the State of California Constitution guarantees students a "free public education." The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell (35 Cal.3d.899 (1984)), "that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extra-curricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities." This same ruling found that "mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities such as drama, music and athletic competition were illegal under the State Constitution." Furthermore, they also rejected the argument that "fees could be charged so long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay."

Meet our new Principal and Assistant Principal

Mrs. Aviles grew up in nearby Modesto and graduated from college right here in Turlock. Mrs. Aviles has been working with Turlock Unified School District since 2004 and has previously worked at Osborn, Walnut, and Cunningham as a first grade teacher and instructional coach. For the past two years she has been our assistant principal here at Brown School and now as our principal. Mrs. Aviles happily lives here in Turlock with her husband, son and daughter.

Mrs. Arakelian grew up in Turlock and went to Brown School. After going to college in Santa Barbara, she came back to Turlock to become a teacher. Mrs. Arakelian was a teacher and instructional coach for 13 years at Medeiros and Earl Schools and is thrilled to be back at Brown School as the assistant principal. She lives in Turlock with her husband, two daughters, two cats, and dog.
